Challenge Accepted
If you found your way here from YouTube: Yup. This is happening.
So this began as a comment on a YouTube video by one of my favorite content creators @TankTolman. Here is a link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/KjZcXwmmjhk So I put up a comment using my personal YouTube account that I am a woodworker and would LOVE to get commissioned to build one of these magnificent ship tables! I was informed (In true internet style.) that the tables shown were AI generated and did not actually exist. There were also quite a few awesome folks who offered encouragement, and the idea of building and filming the process of bringing this creation to life. (Shout-out to @furemerestenshadow5578, @tidalwavewelds, @barneyadams9869, @CrazyDogLadySky, @Savrollo, @rzella8022, @mankyraver. Thank you all for the encouragement and inspiration. Truly.)
Challenge Accepted.
I am going to take my personal favorite parts from every style shown and bring a whole new beast from fantasy to reality. So buckle up buttercup! This is the beginning of the process! In the future I will post videos to my woodworking YouTube account (It has just one video right now lol.) and pictures to this page. If I get savvy enough, I will also put videos here as well.
I do need to make clear one thing right now though: This is a side project for me. Being that I am a Husband and Dad to to wonderful kids, My family and regular business will always be taking priority during the week. I will work on this project as a side hustle, but unless this project starts earning me some real money it will be done on an “As able” basis depending on my time. Who knows, maybe in the future it’ll gain enough traction to become my main gig.
Once I get the shop for this website set up (which should be soon) I think I will add virtual products named “Viking Table Hour, Half hour, Quarter hour.” for people who want to buy extra time for me to put into this project. Anyone who buys time would get a shout-out in the construction video, and I would take that much time from my regular work day and put it towards this project to grease the wheels of completion.
As far a wood goes I have one idea right off the bat: The Alaskan forest that surrounds my shop. Plenty of usable trees on my property. I have a carving set on the way and I know how to use it! The rest of the materials will be a little more challenging, God willing I will be resourceful enough to procure them.
My next post will have sketches and should be towards the end of next week. I will see you all then!
Current Progress:
-Carving set is on it’s way.
-Design and sketches are underway.
